American conservatives face irrelevancy and division in their ranks. Traditional conservatism, the credo of “rock-ribbed” Republicans, has faded. Americans forget the post-war conservative presidents such as Dwight Eisenhower, the World War II general, and Ronald Reagan, who demanded Mikhail Gorbachev “tear down this wall” between East and West Berlin.
Instead, far-rightists, evangelical Christians and extremist rabble-rousers are driving the Republican agenda, forcing unanimity against the Democrats, whose candidate, the aging Joe Biden, defeated their idol, Donald Trump, in November by more than 7 million votes. Washington [US], April 6 (ANI): A US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has said that Congress should consider whether laws should be updated to better regulate social media platforms that have unbridled control over unprecedented amounts of speech.
According to CNN, the provocative and controversial opinion comes as Twitterbanned former President Donald Trump from its platform for violating its rules on incitement of violence. Some conservatives have called on more regulations in the tech world to combat what they view as political bias on social media.

Party tries to replicate central State’s model of bottom-up approach
The Congress has assiduously tried to replicate its Chhattisgarh model of bottom-up approach, training cadre in booth management for the Assembly poll in Assam.

WASHINGTON (AP) Thanks to a coronavirus pandemic-fueled mortgage boom, states will get nearly $700 million in federal grants from a special program for low-income housing, more than double the amount distributed last year.
It’s a boost that the Department of Housing and Urban Development says should produce a tangible leap forward in government low-income housing plans across the country.
The Housing Trust Fund, administered by the department, will disburse the money to state governments for the construction, maintenance and restoration of low-income housing. This year s allotment is $689,565,492 more than double the $322,564,267 disbursed the previous year, HUD said in a statement.

Puducherry [India], April 6 (ANI): Puducherry recorded a voter turnout of 14.01 per cent till 9.30 am across 30 constituencies during assembly polls, according to the Election Commission (EC).
The Lawspet constituency in the Union Territory (UT) has witnessed the highest voting percentage with a voter turnout of 18.89 per cent till 9.30 am, while the Kalapet constituency witnessed the lowest voting percentage with a voter turnout of 13.72 per cent. The EC is yet to update voting percentage data from Ariankuppam, Manavely and Nelliyhope constituencies.
The polling for assembly elections in the states of West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry began at 7 am on Tuesday and is currently underway.
